Star ratings on Kitazo: films, episodes, seasons and series
On Kitazo you rate with stars, from half a star to five. A film has one rating; a series is rated season by season, and the series rating is the average. This guide covers where you rate, what happens to episode ratings, and how your rating ends up in the charts.
The scale
Ten values, from half a star to five, in half-star steps. There is no zero: if you didn't like it at all you give half a star, and if you don't want to rate you don't. The control is the same everywhere: tap a star, tap it again for a half. Rating needs a verified email address; until it is verified, the stars are replaced by Verify to rate.
Rating a film
A film can be rated only after you mark it watched. As soon as you do, the Your rating box invites you with You watched it! Leave a rating: you can do it now or later, it makes no difference. You change a rating by tapping the stars again. Remove rating, in the three-dots menu, clears the stars and leaves the film among your watched ones.
The same box holds Who was your favourite?: one tap on a cast member records your vote for them, which is separate from the stars and is shared under its own privacy setting.
Rating an episode
Every episode has its own stars on its page, under Your rating, next to the community rating and the comments. You have to mark it watched first: until then the row reads Mark the episode as watched to rate it. If you have turned on Rate after watching in the settings, the rating prompt appears on its own every time you press Watched, next in the Continue tab.
Rating a season
A season can be rated once it is over, meaning all of its episodes have aired and you have watched at least one. Its row shows Rate, and afterwards Rated. The sheet asks How was season N?, lets you pick the stars and leaves room for a note, Add a comment (optional): if you write one, Submit rating and publish comment turns it into a comment on the season, with your rating printed on it.
If you have rated every aired episode of that season, Kitazo proposes their average as the season rating, rounded to a whole star, under the label Average of your episode ratings. You can accept it or choose Rate the season yourself and give a different number; in that case your rating wins and the episode average no longer touches it. Back to the episode average restores the average.
A season still airing can't be rated as a whole: you rate it episode by episode, and when the last one airs the average is ready.
A series rating is the average of its seasons
Kitazo never asks you for a single rating of a whole series. At the top of the page you find Your rating for the series, which is the average of the seasons you rated, labelled average of rated seasons. A series that sagged in its last seasons carries that in its rating, instead of living on the memory of its first.
For anyone who marked a whole series in one go, or has many seasons to rate, there is Rate the seasons you've watched: one rating, given to every season you have watched and not yet rated. Seasons you already rated by hand stay as they are, and seasons still airing are left out. After the first round the button becomes Rate the remaining N seasons.
The About tab of a series also has the Season ratings trend chart, which lines up the community averages season by season: at a glance you can see where a series took off or fell apart.
Changing your mind
You can change a rating whenever you like, by tapping the stars. If your activity is shared, the change shows in the feed as "changed the rating of … from 3 to 4 stars". For films with several viewings, each viewing keeps its own rating and the one shown is the latest: that is explained in the rewatch guide. Removing the rating from a rewatched title clears the stars on every viewing, and the app tells you so first.
Who sees your ratings
In the settings, under Privacy, there are two separate entries: Share movie ratings and Share series ratings. Each picks who sees the activity in the feed, among Public, Followers, Friends and Private. A private rating is seen only by you, in your own history. That applies to the feed: the rating still enters the community average, anonymously, and a season comment published with a rating stays visible on the title's page like any other comment.
People who follow you also see your rating in the Who you follow has seen it section of a film's page, unless the rating is private: then it reads rating private.
How your rating enters the community score
The number you see next to every title is the average of the stars given by people using Kitazo, and nothing else: no curves, no scores borrowed from other sites. For a film it is the mean of the ratings, one per person. For a series it is the mean of every season rating left by everyone, so someone who rated six seasons weighs six votes. Ratings imported from other platforms count like the ones given here; those from demo accounts don't. The calculation is spelled out in How the community score is calculated, and the charts built from it are under Charts.
