Privacy policy

Kitazo ("the app", "we") is an app for keeping track of films and TV series. This policy explains what data we collect and what we do with it.

What we collect

What we use it for

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not hand advertisers your library, your ratings or your activity. Kitazo does show ads, and the ad providers collect data of their own: the Advertising section explains how.

Third-party services

Film and series metadata and artwork (TheTVDB), an email provider for verification messages, hosting and database infrastructure run by third parties, and the ad providers Google AdMob and Google AdSense (see the Advertising section). Each provider only handles the data its own function needs.

Advertising

Kitazo is free, and ads pay for it.

Google and its partners are third-party vendors. They may use cookies and device identifiers to show you ads based on your visits to Kitazo and to other sites and apps. Kitazo does not pass them what you watch, how you rate it, or anything else from your account, and adds no targeting parameters to an ad request. Google's ad system does however collect technical device data of its own — including the advertising identifier, the IP address and information about your device and the app — under its own terms.

Cookies and local storage

The public Kitazo site sets one cookie of its own.

We use no analytics cookies, no tracking pixels, and no third-party stats service runs on the site.

The app does not need cookies to work. It keeps a few things in local storage on your device: localStorage in the browser, the app's own storage on iOS and Android. They stay there and are not handed to third parties.

The public home page reads the session token out of local storage without writing anything: if you are already signed in, it sends you into the app instead of the marketing page.

You can clear cookies and local storage from your browser settings, or by uninstalling the app on your phone. Clearing the tokens means signing in again.

Who can see your data

Your profile and your activity can be visible to other people according to your privacy settings: a private profile, hidden per-episode activity, favourites shown or not. You can change them at any time in Settings.

Comments you leave on a title are the exception: they stay public in that title's comments section, anyone who opens it sees them, and an excerpt may appear on the title's public page on kitazo.app. We do not show your name or your username there. The sharing preferences in Settings govern the feed.

Keeping and deleting data

We keep your data for as long as you keep the account. From the app you can reset your library, or delete your account and everything attached to it, straight from Settings (the Delete account button): deletion is immediate and permanent, and you do not need to contact us.

Your rights

You can read and export your data at any time from the app (Settings → Export), and delete your account and all its data from Settings. For anything else, write to info.kitazo@proton.me.

Children

Kitazo is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; the date at the top is the last revision.
