Kitazo notifications: what arrives, where, and how to choose

Kitazo tells you about three things: what comes out, what the people you follow do, and what happens to your comments. Everything goes through the bell in the app; it reaches your device only if you ask. This guide lists every kind of notification and every switch.

The bell

Notifications sit behind the bell at the top of your profile. They are grouped by section, each showing its latest with a See all to open it in full; Clear empties a section. A notification you haven't opened yet carries a New label.

Notifications are kept for ninety days, then deleted on their own.

In-app and push are two different things

In the settings, the In-app notifications section decides what appears behind the bell, with one switch per type: Friends' activity, Releases (episodes and movies), Likes, Comments, New followers, Group activity. Turning a type off removes it from the bell, not just from your phone.

The Push notifications section adds the alert on your device. Push is off when you sign up: Kitazo doesn't ask for permission until you turn it on yourself with Push notifications on your device. From then on the same notifications you left on in the app reach your phone. App updates controls only the push for Kitazo's own notices: in the app they always arrive.

Send a test notification pushes to every registered device and tells you how many there are. If nothing arrives, the phone has Kitazo's notifications disabled in its system settings: the app says so.

In the browser

The web app sends push too, with the browser's permission. When you turn push on on the web, the browser asks whether to allow notifications from kitazo.app; if you denied it in the past, you have to re-enable them in the browser's site settings, and the app points that out. Web push arrives even with the page closed, as long as the browser is open, and on the app installed to your home screen it behaves like native push.

No email

Kitazo sends no email for notifications: no digests, no "a friend watched". The only emails you get concern your account: verifying your address, the code to reset your password, a warning before an unverified account is deleted, and replies from support.

Muting one person, not everything

On someone's profile, in the menu, there are two options that act on that person alone. Mute push notifications: their activity keeps appearing in the feed and behind the bell, but no longer rings on your phone. Hide updates does the opposite: that person doesn't see your activity in their feed and gets no notifications from you, while they can keep following you and your profile stays visible to them. Blocking, instead, cuts everything in both directions.

For groups there is muting on subgroups: Mute on a subgroup's page stops the notifications for titles added there, without touching the parent group.

When releases arrive

Release notifications go out once a day, in the morning, for everything out that day. An episode goes to anyone who started the series and hasn't set it aside; a film to anyone with it on their watchlist. The same day the series returns to Continue with the NEW badge. The release calendar has a guide of its own.

Notifications that open something

Tapping a notification takes you to the right place: the series page for a new episode, the comment for a reply, the group for an added title, the series with the Accept and Decline bar for a watch-together invite. A finished-import notification lists the titles it couldn't import, with the button to report them to us.
