Guide

Marking films, episodes and seasons as watched, with the right date

A title's page is where the diary gets written. This guide walks through every control: what it does, when it appears, and what it changes in your stats and in the feed. It applies to films and, with a few extra options, to series.

Putting a title in your library

Every page has an Add to library button. For a film, or a series you haven't started, it means one thing: it goes on your watchlist, the things to watch. Once it is in, the button reads In library and tapping it lets you remove it. The same button sits on the cards in search results and lists, so you don't have to open the page to save a title.

You don't have to go through the watchlist to mark something watched: a film can be marked directly, and an episode of a series not in your library brings up the question Add the series?, with the choice between adding the whole series or marking just that episode.

Marking a film as watched

A released film has a Mark as watched button. Kitazo asks When did you watch it? and offers four answers: Now, On its release date, Choose a date and I don't remember when. The last one logs the watch with an unknown date: the film counts as watched and enters your stats, but it doesn't show in the timeline until you give it a date.

A date can't be in the future or before the film's release; the picker says so and doesn't save. Once watched, the rating box shows the stars, the date and, from the second viewing on, the ×N count. Tapping the date opens the Watch dates list, where every viewing has its own row and you can add or correct one. Edit watch date does the same for the latest.

In the three-dots menu you find Mark as not watched, which removes the film from your watched list along with its rating, and Remove rating, which clears just the stars.

A series page

A series has two tabs: About, with synopsis, cast, trailers and similar titles, and Episodes, with the seasons. Each season opens to show its episodes, each with its own tick. Specials sit in a season of their own, at the bottom.

One episode at a time

Tap the tick next to an episode and it is marked watched, now. From the single episode page, opened by tapping its name, you find Mark as watched, the date with Edit watch date, Previous and Next buttons to move through the season, your rating, the community rating and the comments.

If you mark an episode in a later season while the earlier ones are empty, Kitazo asks Mark previous seasons too?. You can answer Yes, add them, No, just this one or Don't ask again.

A whole season

At the head of every season there is Mark the whole season as watched. Here too you choose the date: Now, At release dates, which gives every episode the day it aired, Choose a date or I don't remember when. Episodes already watched are left alone.

The opposite, Mark the whole season as not watched, asks you to confirm because it also removes the ratings given to those episodes, and ratings can't be recovered.

The whole series

For a series you watched outside Kitazo there is Mark series as completed: one tap for every aired episode. The date question has the same four answers, where On each episode's air date rebuilds a plausible history even if you remember nothing. At the end you get the Series completed celebration, or the Up to date badge if the series is still airing, and Kitazo offers to rate the seasons you haven't rated yet.

Skipping what you don't want to see

Not everything needs watching. Press and hold a season or an episode and choose Skip: it is marked Not watching, leaves your to-watch list and, for a season, its future episodes are skipped automatically. That way a series where you only care about one season can still count as up to date. Resume undoes the skip; resuming a season also clears the skips on its individual episodes.

Removing a title from your library

Tap In library and confirm. For a film everything goes: watch, rating and progress. For a series there is a second choice, Remove, keep watched episodes: the series leaves your library but its episodes stay marked. It is mostly for crossovers, when you watched two episodes of a series you don't really follow. A gentler alternative is to set the series aside with Drop series, which takes it out of Continue without deleting anything.

What changes when you mark something

Rewatches

Tapping the tick of an already watched episode, or the Log a rewatch button on a film, adds a viewing instead of removing one. Every viewing has its own date and can have its own rating. It is a topic of its own, with a dedicated guide.
