Privacy and account: what you control, what needs verifying, how to delete everything

Your account has few parts: a verified email, a way in, a profile and a set of choices about who sees what. This guide goes through them in the order you find them in the settings, and ends with the two deletions, library and account, which are final.

Your profile

At the top of the settings, Edit opens your profile: name, username of 3 to 24 characters with an availability check as you type, bio, picture and header image. For the picture you can upload an image or pick a character from the titles in your favourites; for the header, a photo of yours or a poster from your favourites, with the option to reposition it, and the card colour.

The privacy settings

The Privacy section starts with the Private profile switch. On, anyone who wants to follow you has to ask and you approve or decline from your notifications; whoever already followed you stays. Activity, stats and public lists are seen only by your followers, while name, picture and counters stay visible to everyone. With a private profile the Public option disappears from the entries below.

Then, one entry per kind of activity, each with its own audience: Public, Followers, Friends, meaning only people you follow back, or Private, meaning only you.

Below is Blocked users, the list of people you blocked, where you unblock. A private rating still enters, anonymously, the community average: privacy covers the feed and your profile, not the aggregate statistics.

The history that cleans itself

Activities published to the feed are kept for a month, then removed on their own, except those that received likes or replies. Comments are never deleted by this cleanup, and your diary, meaning watches, ratings and dates, is not involved: that stays forever. From the Activity tab of your profile you can delete a post early or change its visibility.

The verified email

On sign-up a verification link arrives, valid for one day; if it expires, the app sends another from Resend email, and from there you can also correct a wrong address. Temporary or throwaway addresses are not accepted. Anyone signing in with Google or Apple is verified automatically.

Without a verified email the app works for reading and logging, but not for anything that touches other people: rating, commenting, reporting, importing a library, requesting a group, writing to support. After a grace period the app asks for verification before going on, and an account never verified is deleted, with a warning email a week before.

Signing in

You sign in with email or username and password, with Continue with Google or, on iPhone, with Apple. Forgot password? sends a six-digit code to your email, to enter together with the new password.

In the Account & security section: Change email asks for your current password and sends the verification link to the new address, which becomes active when you confirm it. Change password asks for the old one and signs out every other session. Log out other devices does just that: every phone or browser except the one in use has to sign in again. Log out closes the current session.

Language, theme and ads

Language switches the interface and descriptions between Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Arabic; whatever doesn't exist in the chosen language shows in English. Theme picks dark or light, the secondary colour and the seasonal decorations. Ad privacy choices, present only in the apps and only where the law requires it, reopens the choice about personalised ads.

Your data

Export my data downloads everything as a readable ZIP archive: it is also your personal-data export, and it has a guide of its own together with the import.

The danger zone

At the bottom of the settings are two red buttons, each with a confirmation and then a request to type DELETE.

Delete all library data empties films, series, watched episodes, ratings, watchlist, progress, the lists you created, your posts, and the likes and comments you left on other people's posts. The account, the profile and the people you follow stay. It is for when an import went wrong and you want to redo it from scratch; it can't be used while an import is running.

Delete account removes everything, immediately and for good: profile, library, stats, activity, comments, notifications. Lists you collaborated on stay with their authors, without you. Groups you requested stay, because a group has no owner. There is no cooling-off period and no restore: if you think you might come back, export your data first, so a new account can start again from the backup.
